Catalysis is a 5-piece metal band from Dundee, Scotland. Formed in late 2016, the band have released4 studio EPs; ‘Into the Unknown’ (2017), ‘Catalysis’ (2018), Relicta(2021), Innova (2022) and theirdebut full-length album ‘Connection Lost’ (2020). Barring the Into the Unknown EP, the bandsprevious creative output has been mixed and mastered by Death Metal legend Mendel bij de Leij (ex-Aborted) and all received very positive reviews upon release. ‘Connection Lost’ also features guestguitar solos from Phil Demmel (Vio-Lence, ex-Machine Head) and Joey Radziwill (Sacred Reich). In 2019, the band completed their first European tour, including a show at the Agressive MusicFestival in Czech Republic. In 2021, Catalysis hosted the first live metal show in Scotland after theCOVID lockdowns, on 28thMay, selling out the show in under 10 days after it’s announcement.2022 wasa year of highs for the band–from winning theBloodstock Metal 2 The Masses competitionin Scotland and subsequently performing at Bloodstock Open Air, to high profile slots alongside bandslike Avatar, and multiple shows around Scotland in venues old and new, alongside the release ofInnova in July, the band has not stopped to rest. This fantastic year concluded with an awardnomination and subsequent win for Best Metal at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMA).Despite having only released Innova in July of 2022, Catalysis have spent much of2023 working ontheir second full length album, Betrayer, alongside making sure to still gig regularly. Betrayer is set forrelease on December 15th2023, with two launch shows to accompany this release on the sameweekend. The band feels that Betrayer showcases the many influences of the band to a higherstandard than previous releases, with the likes of its opening track, Kingmaker, leaning far more intothe melodic death metal influence on the band. Catalysis feel that this album is a very naturalprogression from previous endeavours and has something to appeal to all fans of the band, pushingthe boundaries of what has been previously explored while still maintaining the bands core sound. This record has also seen a change in mixing and mastering, whichhas been handled by Hans PetterSolen of the band Once Awake, and the band feel that he has really captured the sound that Catalysishas been striving for.As well as the bands sonic message, there’s always a deeper meaning in the lyrics of the band's music. The band often tackle topics that are important to its members and are relevant to current events, with themes surrounding climate change and humans relationship with the natural world, howprevalent xenophobia and racism are in modern society, and the further effects of manygovernmental decisions around the world. The lyrics on Relicta and Innova have deviated from this, and instead covers death, loss, issues with one's own mental health, rebirth and personaldevelopment. Betrayer follows a similar lyrical path covered on the previous two releases, with someof the songs pertaining to more personal matters within the members of the band as well.Catalysis is a band for fans of Machine Head, Sylosis, Chimaira, Gojira, The Black Dahlia Murder etc
